Mushroom cultivation is one of the most promising enterprises capable of recycling agricultural waste, generate new employment opportunities, augment income without competing for large land space and produce highly nutritious food which has a place in the domestic market. Mushrooms have rightly been recommended by the Food and Agricultural Organization as a food, with delicious flavour and biting texture with good sources of vitamins and minerals. Low availability and poor absorption of iron and repeated and closely spaced pregnancies place a constant drain on the iron stores of pregnant women. The increased iron requirement during pregnancy often outstrip the available supply of iron and induce low level of haemoglobin and haematocrit values resulting in decreased oxygen carrying capacity and impairment in foetal growth. Thus iron deficiency anaemia during pregnancy may be on important risk factor contributing to the high incidence of low birth weight. This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between the maternal iron status and birth weight of infants of selected mothers.- Nutritional Profile of Selected Expectant Mothers and the Cost of Pregnancy

This book namely, ' Immunological Aspects of Foods' tries to give guidelines in this respect. The authors highlight the immuno-chemical aspects of meat proteins, barley seed proteins, wheat proteins, peanut proteins and egg white proteins. Toxic nature of certain plant and animal constituents have been studied in detail. Due emphasis on immunological aspects of staphylococcal enterotoxins, enterotoxins from escherichia coli, fish and shell fish poisons and food borne viruses have been given. Nature and detection of food allergens and oilseed allergens have been discussed.
